Where it came from
Slaughter the Strong was originally released as a rare board-wipe spell in the 2018 Magic: The Gathering set Rivals of Ixalan. The card was designed to support white-aligned strategy in the Ixalan block, providing a tactical tool for players to manage board states by forcing opponents to sacrifice creatures until they reach a collective power of four or less.
This specific promotional version, designated as collector number 22p, features unique alternate art by artist Zack Stella. Created for the game's organized play environment, the promo was distributed through local game stores as an incentive for participating in tournament events, reflecting a period where Wizards of the Coast focused on high-quality foil card treatments to engage the dedicated tabletop community.
