Provenance

Where it came from

Sleep-Cursed Faerie was released as part of the Wilds of Eldraine expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2023. This set drew heavily from fairy-tale motifs and Arthurian legend, reimagining the whimsical and dangerous themes of the original Eldraine plane. The card represents a creature design common to blue-aligned cards in the set, focusing on the intersection of sleep magic and taxing mechanical effects.

The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who has contributed extensively to the game's aesthetic identity. Her design emphasizes the ethereal and menacing quality of the faerie, capturing the set's signature blend of enchantment and high fantasy. Upon release, the card gained attention for its unique mana-taxing ability, which forces players to weigh the power of an early-game creature against the potential to awaken it for a larger strategic impact.
