Snake Basket

Snake Basket was included in the 2000 World Championship Decks, a specialized product line released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top-performing decks from the Magic: The Gathering World Championship. This specific card was featured in the deck piloted by Jon Finkel, who secured the world title that year. These decks were printed with gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures, intentionally designed to be non-tournament legal to preserve the collectability of the original cards while allowing players to experience the high-level strategies of professional competition.

The card itself was originally designed for the Urza's Saga expansion, released in 1998, with artwork by artist Andrew Robinson. The design aimed to provide players with a scalable artifact-based token generator, reflecting the set's focus on complex mechanical interactions and resource management. Upon its release, it was regarded as a unique, high-risk utility card that rewarded players for holding onto mana-intensive board states, cementing its status as a distinct piece of the game's late-nineties design era.
