Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 17 in the Commander 2015 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in November 2015. Tokens are functional game pieces used in Magic: The Gathering to represent creatures created by spell effects during gameplay. This specific iteration was designed to support the 'Plunder the Graves' preconstructed deck, which featured card mechanics that generated 1/1 green Snake creature tokens.

The artwork for this token was provided by Steve Prescott, a prolific contributor to the game's visual identity. Prescott’s design emphasizes the serpentine nature of the creature through dynamic, coiled positioning and vibrant green hues consistent with the color identity of the token within the game's mechanics. Like most tokens in the Commander series, it was intended as a utilitarian accessory for players, though it has since become a point of interest for collectors focusing on the evolution of secondary game components.
