Soltari Monk

The Soltari Monk was originally introduced in the Tempest expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 1997, representing the shadowy, phase-shifting inhabitants of the plane of Rath. This specific version appeared in the 1998 World Championship Decks, a product line created by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to replicate the experience of playing with high-level decks from the previous year's world tournament. The cards in these sets are distinctively marked with gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures of the professional players who piloted them, making them non-tournament legal but highly prized for their unique design.

The card’s illustration was provided by Janet Aulisio, a prolific artist who contributed to the game throughout its formative years. Her depiction captures the ethereal, shifting nature of the Soltari people, utilizing her characteristic style to emphasize the monk's protection from black spells.
