Spirit

The Spirit token, numbered 3 in the Crimson Vow Commander set, was released in late 2021 as part of the accessory suite for the Magic: The Gathering expansion, Innistrad: Crimson Vow. These tokens serve as physical representations of ephemeral creatures summoned by various spells and abilities within the game, particularly those themed around the gothic horror setting of Innistrad. As this set focused heavily on vampire weddings and the haunting lore of the plane, the token’s design leans into a spectral, eerie aesthetic that complements the dark atmosphere of the expansion.

The illustration for this Spirit token reflects the cohesive visual direction of the Crimson Vow collection, which emphasized the interplay between shadow and spectral light. Artists for these tokens are tasked with creating distinct, recognizable figures that allow players to quickly identify board states during complex gameplay sessions. While specific artist credits for individual tokens can sometimes be secondary to the broader card set, this design was intentionally crafted to be a functional, evocative piece of tabletop ephemera, well-received by the player base for its consistency and stylistic alignment with the broader Innistrad aesthetic.
