Spirit

The Spirit token, numbered 28 in the Modern Horizons 3 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in June 2024. As part of a direct-to-Modern expansion designed to celebrate Magic: The Gathering's history while introducing high-power cards, this token serves as a utility piece for various creature abilities and spells within the set that generate flying Spirit tokens. Like other tokens in the Modern Horizons series, it provides a functional and aesthetic extension of the set's graveyard-centric and synergistic mechanical themes.

The artistic direction for this token follows the established visual identity of the Modern Horizons 3 release, featuring a stylized, spectral design intended to fit seamlessly alongside the set's core cards. Illustrators tasked with such tokens aim for a balance between clarity for gameplay and a thematic resonance with the plane or lore being referenced. These tokens were received by the community as essential accessories for organized play, valued for their clear utility and the cohesive art style that complements the set's broader expansion cycle.
