Where it came from
The Squirrel Wrangler card was released as part of the Secret Lair Drop Series, a specialized collection of curated Magic: The Gathering cards featuring unique, thematic art treatments. This specific card was featured in the '90s Binder Experience drop, which leaned into the nostalgic aesthetic of trading card culture from that decade. It serves as a visual homage to the era's distinctive graphic design, character tropes, and artistic sensibilities.
The art for this iteration of Squirrel Wrangler was created to evoke a sense of playful chaos, consistent with the creature type's long-standing identity in the game. By utilizing the frame and stylistic cues common to 1990s trading card inserts, the design aims to resonate with veteran players who grew up during the game's formative years. Upon its release, the drop was well-received by collectors who prioritize the card's thematic presentation over its mechanical utility.
