Where it came from
Stormbind was originally introduced in the 1996 Mirage expansion, serving as a signature red and green enchantment that allowed players to discard cards to deal direct damage. The card emerged during a period of Magic: The Gathering history where graveyard interaction and discard-as-a-cost mechanics were being heavily explored, solidifying its place as a staple of aggressive red-green strategies of the mid-nineties.
The Timeshifted version, released in 2006 as part of the Time Spiral set, features the iconic purple expansion symbol and a nostalgic frame that pays homage to the original aesthetic of the nineties. This version was designed to celebrate the history of the game, reprinting influential cards with their classic visual identity to evoke the atmosphere of Magic's formative years for both veteran players and newcomers.
