Where it came from
Stormsplitter was released as part of the Bloomburrow set in 2024, a Magic: The Gathering expansion notable for its anthropomorphic animal theme set in the plane of the same name. Designed to support spell-slinging strategies, the card embodies the set’s focus on small-creature synergy by creating temporary copies of itself whenever the player casts an instant or sorcery spell.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a painterly style to capture the creature's energetic, storm-charged nature. Within the competitive landscape, the card gained rapid attention for its high-impact potential in formats like Commander and Modern, where players often prioritize mechanics that reward chaining multiple spells in a single turn.
