Where it came from
Suspend was originally released as a blue-aligned time-manipulation spell in the 2007 Future Sight expansion, designed to evoke the set's theme of temporal shifting through the suspend keyword mechanic. It was reimagined for the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, a specialized subset of cards featuring extended, borderless illustrations curated to highlight the aesthetic diversity within Magic: The Gathering.
The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game known for his expressive, light-filled compositions. Voss opted for a surrealist approach to represent the concept of time suspension, moving away from the more literal interpretations found in earlier sets to focus on the atmospheric and ethereal qualities of the spell, a direction that was well-received by fans for its painterly, elevated visual style.
