Where it came from
Swarm Intelligence was first introduced in the Hour of Devastation expansion in 2017 and later reprinted in the Commander 2020 set, appearing as collector number 124. It was designed as an enchantment that reflects the flavor of the Locust God's influence on the plane of Amonkhet, mechanically serving as a powerful engine for spell-heavy strategies by copying every instant or sorcery spell cast by its controller.
The card was illustrated by the artist Magali Villeneuve, whose work is highly regarded in the Magic: The Gathering community for its evocative lighting and intricate character design. By depicting the swirling, chaotic movement of insectoid swarms, the art reinforces the card's function of multiplicative power, and it has remained a staple in blue-aligned Commander decks for its reliable ability to double the impact of player actions.
