Swarm of Bloodflies

Swarm of Bloodflies was included in the 2022 Jumpstart set, a product line designed by Wizards of the Coast to streamline the Magic: The Gathering experience by offering pre-constructed, ready-to-play half-decks. This particular card was featured as part of the 'Reanimated' themed pack, which focuses on graveyard recursion and synergy with creatures entering or leaving the battlefield. The set was created to provide a pick-up-and-play format that removes the need for traditional deck building.

The card features artwork by illustrator Greg Staples, who is well-known for his atmospheric and dark fantasy contributions to the game. Staples utilized a heavy, painterly style to evoke a sense of decay and swarming movement, aligning with the card's mechanical function as a persistent threat that grows stronger as other creatures perish. The design was received as a functional, flavorful inclusion for casual play environments, effectively representing the horror-themed tropes common in black-aligned magic.
