Where it came from
The Sword of Wealth and Power was released as part of The Big Score, a thematic expansion set designed to explore motifs of ambition and high-stakes risk. Within the context of the game, it was introduced as a high-utility artifact card intended to balance late-game economic scaling with tactical combat advantages. Its mechanics reflect a deliberate shift toward resource management, prioritizing sustained board presence over aggressive, single-turn impacts.
The card's aesthetic identity was established by lead illustrator Marcus Thorne, who utilized a neoclassical style to emphasize the weight of the titular weapon. Thorne aimed to convey a sense of gravitas and opulence, favoring gold leaf detailing and clean, sharp lines to contrast with the more chaotic illustrations typical of the set. Upon its debut, the card was lauded by players for its grounded design language and its subtle, elegant integration into mid-range deck archetypes.
