Where it came from
The Sword of Wealth and Power was released as card number 56 in the 2004 expansion set The Big Score. Designed to capture the high-stakes, opulent aesthetic of the set’s central theme, the illustration was crafted to evoke a sense of ambition and greed. It was part of a broader collection that shifted the game's mechanics toward resource accumulation and player-driven economic gameplay, aiming to differentiate itself from the more combat-focused releases of the previous year.
The reception of the card was largely centered on its utility within the game's meta, as players frequently debated the balance between its high resource cost and the long-term strategic advantage it provided. The visual design, characterized by intricate gold filigree and an exaggerated, stylized blade, became a hallmark of the set's artistic direction. While it never achieved the status of a rare collector’s trophy, it remains a well-recognized element of the set for those who played during that era.
