Where it came from
Teferi's Protection is a notable card within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, originating from the 2017 Commander supplemental set. It was designed to provide white decks with a powerful defensive utility, reflecting the character Teferi's mastery over time and phasing. The card was conceptualized by the Wizards of the Coast design team to solve a specific mechanical need for protection in multiplayer formats, allowing players to phase out their permanents and protect their life total during high-stakes board states.
The illustrative work captures the essence of Teferi's temporal magic, depicting the planeswalker manipulating the flow of reality to shield his allies. Upon its release, the card was widely received by the community as a staple for white-aligned Commander decks due to its versatility and ability to act as an effective shield against board wipes and direct damage spells. It has since become a foundational piece of cardboard in many collections, recognized for both its strategic depth and its thematic ties to one of the game's most enduring protagonists.
