Where it came from
Temporary Lockdown was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United set for Magic: The Gathering. This specific version, identified by collector number 36s, is a promo printing distributed through various organized play initiatives. The card serves as a thematic reflection of the Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria, mechanically representing a stalling tactic designed to exile low-mana permanents and disrupt aggressive battlefield strategies.
The artwork for this piece was rendered by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community known for her ethereal and detailed fantasy style. Her design work on this card focuses on the visual language of stasis and containment, utilizing the game's established aesthetic to convey a sense of localized temporal suspension. Upon its introduction, the card became a staple in competitive formats like Standard and Pioneer, valued for its efficiency in clearing crowded boards.
