Where it came from
Tempt with Discovery was first released in 2013 as part of the Commander 2013 product line, designed by Wizards of the Coast to expand the popular multiplayer Commander format. The card belongs to a cycle of 'Tempting Offer' spells, which mechanically encourage social interaction by inviting opponents to join in a beneficial effect for a shared cost, reflecting the political and communal nature of the format.
The original art for this card was created by illustrator Matt Stewart, who aimed to capture the essence of a mysterious, ancient relic revealing its secrets. It was well-received by the player base upon release for its high-impact potential in group games and its ability to act as a catch-up mechanic, becoming a staple in green-aligned decks that prioritize ramping land resources.
