Tempt with Discovery

Tempt with Discovery was first released in the 2012 Commander expansion set, designed as part of a cycle of cards intended to encourage table-wide interaction and social gameplay. Mechanically, it functions as a group-hug spell that offers opponents a chance to search their libraries for a land, provided they choose to follow the lead of the caster. This design philosophy was rooted in the multiplayer-focused nature of the Commander format, aiming to create 'tempting' dilemmas where the caster benefits significantly more than their rivals if the offer is accepted.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Nils Hamm, whose signature style often incorporates ethereal, organic textures and soft, atmospheric lighting. Hamm’s work on this card depicts a glowing, mysterious landscape that emphasizes the allure of the namesake discovery, perfectly capturing the theme of magical exploration. Since its introduction, the card has become a staple in green-aligned Commander decks for its ability to ramp lands into play rapidly, leading to its inclusion in various iterations of The List, which features curated reprints from across the game's history.
