Where it came from
Tempt with Discovery was originally released in the 2013 Commander set, designed as a political green spell that incentivizes opponents to participate in a communal land-search mechanic. The Secret Lair Drop version, appearing as card number 2848, was released as part of the 'Artist Series: Volkan Baga' collection. This specific iteration highlights the artist's signature approach to fantasy illustration, emphasizing high-fantasy atmosphere and ornate detailing that contrasts with the functional, tactical nature of the original card printing.
The reception of this version focused on its aesthetic departure from the standard set aesthetic, as the Secret Lair line is intended to offer collectors stylized, premium versions of mechanically established staples. By featuring this card within the Artist Series, the design team aimed to elevate a popular Commander format utility card into a piece of distinct visual storytelling, catering to players who prioritize unique card art and thematic coherence in their personal deck building.
