Where it came from
Tempt with Vengeance was first introduced as part of the Commander 2013 product line, designed by Wizards of the Coast to expand the multiplayer format's unique 'tempting' mechanic. The card was intended to create high-stakes, table-wide political interactions by offering opponents tokens in exchange for the caster gaining a significantly larger share, embodying the chaotic, collaborative nature of Commander gameplay.
The artwork for this particular printing was produced to reflect the aggressive, red-aligned color identity of the spell, focusing on the imagery of elemental fury and sudden escalation. Within the broader context of the Dragonstorm Commander release, which reissued popular cards for new players, this printing retains the functional design of the original while serving as an accessible staple for decks that rely on token generation and scaling creature threats.
