Where it came from
Tempt with Mayhem was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander deck series. The card belongs to a cycle of 'Tempting Offer' spells, a mechanic originally debuted in the Commander 2013 product, designed to introduce social negotiation into gameplay by offering opponents the chance to benefit from a powerful effect in exchange for the caster receiving an amplified version of that same benefit.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a bold, chaotic aesthetic to reflect the spell's thematic focus on group-wide disruption. Within the Commander format, the card is recognized for its ability to escalate board states rapidly, fitting into the 'Chaos' archetype that encourages unpredictable game outcomes. Its design is intended to reward players who can strategically manipulate the incentives of their opponents to create favorable, albeit volatile, battlefield conditions.
