Where it came from
Tempt with Mayhem was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, a collection specifically designed for the multiplayer Commander format. The card represents a cycle of 'Tempting Offer' cards, a popular mechanic that encourages table-wide social interaction by allowing opponents to copy the spell's effect in exchange for the original caster receiving a scaled bonus.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, whose contributions to the game often lean into ethereal or high-fantasy aesthetics. The design focuses on the chaos-inducing nature of red mana, aiming to disrupt board states by forcing players into a risky game of incentivized decision-making, a hallmark of political-style play in the Magic: The Gathering community.
