Where it came from
Teval, the Balanced Scale was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander set, an expansion designed to integrate the complex mechanical themes of the Tarkir plane into the Commander format. The card serves as a thematic exploration of the Dromoka clan's philosophy of structured harmony, reflecting the shift in the timeline where the dragonlord's influence enforced a rigid, orderly peace across the region.
The card’s illustration, rendered with a focus on symmetry and the stoic iconography associated with the Dromoka, was crafted to mirror the balanced, defensive gameplay style inherent to its mechanics. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its technical role in board stabilization, receiving praise for how its design effectively translated the lore of Tarkir’s draconic hierarchy into a functional tool for multiplayer strategy.
