Where it came from
The Seedcore was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Phyrexia: All Will Be One. This set depicts the completion of the Phyrexians' long-standing goal to conquer the plane of Mirrodin, transforming its metallic landscape into a nightmare of organic and synthetic fusion. As a legendary land card, The Seedcore represents the heart of the Mycosynth gardens, where the influence of Elesh Norn and her acolytes forces the transformation of all natural life into something new and horrific.
The illustration for this card was created by artist Titus Lunter, who was tasked with capturing the unsettling marriage of biological growth and cold, mechanical structure that defines the Phyrexians. Lunter utilized a palette of muted greens and rusted metallic tones to emphasize the decay of the original environment. The piece was well-received by players and art enthusiasts for its ability to convey a sense of claustrophobia and inevitable transformation, grounding the mechanics of the game card within the deeper narrative themes of the Phyrexian invasion.
