Thornwood Falls

Thornwood Falls was originally introduced as a common land card in the Khans of Tarkir set in 2014, designed to provide players with a functional mana-fixing tool that enters the battlefield tapped while gaining a small amount of life. The card serves as part of a cycle of dual lands intended for Limited formats, helping players stabilize their board state in the early game. Its appearance in Commander 2016, specifically numbered 333, marks one of its many reprints within the popular preconstructed deck series, where it serves as a reliable budget-friendly option for players utilizing green and blue mana.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by Jonas De Ro, who utilized a lush, vibrant aesthetic to depict the serene yet imposing nature of a woodland waterfall. The design intent was to visually represent the symbiotic relationship between the forest and the water, aligning with the mechanical identity of the Simic Combine and the Temur Frontier archetypes. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base for its consistency and accessibility, cementing its place as a staple in casual Commander decks that require reliable land cycles without the premium cost of rare fetch or shock lands.
