Throne of Bone

Throne of Bone was released in 1993 as part of the Limited Edition Beta set for Magic: The Gathering, the pioneering trading card game developed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. As a member of the original core set, the card was designed to demonstrate the game's focus on color-specific artifacts and resource management, reflecting the early design philosophy that favored varied and sometimes situational utility for players exploring the nascent rules of the game.

The artwork for this card was created by artist Dan Frazier, whose distinctive style became synonymous with the aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering. Frazier’s illustration aims to evoke a dark, skeletal aesthetic that aligns with the card's theme of black-aligned artifact power. While the card is often cited by players for its niche mechanical application, it remains a historical piece of early gaming design, representing the raw, experimental era of collectible card games before standardized power levels were fully established.
