Where it came from
Tidings was reprinted in the Commander 2018 set as part of the Adaptive Enchantment deck, a product designed to support the popular multiplayer Commander format for Magic: The Gathering. Originally released in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, the card was conceived as a powerful blue sorcery that allowed players to draw four cards at the cost of skipping their own draw step, a mechanic that balanced its high card advantage with a temporary loss of momentum.
The 2018 printing features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, who provided a fresh, atmospheric illustration for the classic spell. Her design emphasizes the ethereal and scholarly nature of the blue color identity within the game, aiming to capture the essence of deep research and arcane knowledge. The card has historically been well-regarded by casual players for its utility in decks that prioritize long-term planning and hand size management.
