What it does
Banding (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are blocking or being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)
Though many think of Wolves as solitary predators, they are actually extremely social animals. During a hunt they often call to each other, which can be quite unsettling for their prey.

Where it came from
Timber Wolves was released as part of the Limited Edition Alpha set in 1993, representing the inaugural offering of Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast, the game was conceived to provide a portable, strategic trading card experience. The set served as the foundation for the collectible card game genre, blending fantasy art with complex, deck-building mechanics.
The card illustration for Timber Wolves was created by artist Quinton Hoover, who contributed extensively to the visual identity of early Magic sets. Hoover’s work on this card utilized a distinctive, lyrical style that emphasized movement and the naturalistic essence of the wolves, aiming to evoke the wild, untamed atmosphere of the forest environment. Upon release, the set was met with immediate, high-intensity interest, quickly exhausting its initial print run and cementing its status as a foundational piece of hobby history.
