Time Warp

Time Warp was released in 1997 as part of the Tempest expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a blue sorcery, it represents the continuation of Wizards of the Coast's long-standing design tradition of granting extra turns, a powerful effect rooted in the game's earliest iterations. The card was conceived to offer high-impact gameplay at a competitive mana cost, fitting into the aggressive and tactical environment defined by the Tempest set.

The artwork was provided by Pete Venters, a prolific illustrator whose work defined much of the visual identity of mid-nineties Magic. Venters opted for a surreal, fragmented aesthetic to capture the disorienting nature of temporal manipulation. The card was met with immediate interest from tournament players due to its versatility, and it has since become a foundational staple in the Commander format, where its ability to manipulate turn order remains highly valued by deck builders.
