Tocasia, Dig Site Mentor // Tocasia, Dig Site Mentor

Tocasia, Dig Site Mentor was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War Art Series, a collection of cards featuring enlarged, borderless versions of artwork from the main expansion set. The character of Tocasia serves as a foundational figure in Magic: The Gathering lore, depicted here as the mentor to the central antagonists of the set, Urza and Mishra. This specific card focuses on her role as an archaeologist exploring the ruins of Argoth, emphasizing the theme of excavating history that defines this chapter of the game's narrative.

The artwork for this piece was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist within the Magic: The Gathering community known for her detailed character portraits and atmospheric lighting. Villeneuve's design captures the scholarly curiosity of the character, balancing the grit of a dig site with a sense of historical discovery. Upon release, the Art Series cards were well-received by collectors who sought high-quality, frame-free representations of the set's conceptual art, often serving as a premium showcase for the aesthetic direction of the expansion.
