Tocasia's Welcome // Tocasia's Welcome

Tocasia's Welcome was released in late 2022 as part of The Brothers' War Art Series, a collection of oversized, non-playable cards featuring the expanded horizontal artwork of cards from the core expansion set. These pieces were designed to celebrate the narrative depth of the Brothers' War storyline, a pivotal conflict in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse that focuses on the artificers Urza and Mishra and their mentor, the archeologist Tocasia. The series highlights the intricate illustrative work that defines the aesthetic of modern trading card games.

The artwork for this specific card, created by illustrator Donato Giancola, captures the scholarly and hopeful tone surrounding Tocasia’s influence on her apprentices. Giancola, known for his masterful use of lighting and human-centric composition, aimed to portray the sense of discovery and intellectual mentorship central to the lore. Within the community, these Art Series cards are appreciated primarily by enthusiasts of fantasy illustration and those interested in the artistic process behind the game's world-building, as they provide a clearer, text-free view of the detailed scenes commissioned for the expansion.
