Skitterbeam Battalion // Skitterbeam Battalion

Skitterbeam Battalion was introduced as part of the Art Series for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. These cards were designed as promotional collectibles that showcase the intricate illustrations used throughout the set, offering players and collectors a focused view of the game's high-fantasy mechanical aesthetic. The set draws heavy inspiration from the lore of Urza and Mishra, emphasizing the conflict between massive technological constructs and ancient magic.

The art featured on this card highlights the distinct visual language of the Brothers' War era, which prioritizes rusted, industrial, and retro-futuristic motifs. By presenting the card without traditional game-state borders, the series emphasizes the contribution of the illustrator, allowing the composition and color palette to take center stage. Within the community, these art cards have been received as a dedicated way to appreciate the high-level craft of professional fantasy illustration within the trading card game ecosystem.
