Where it came from
Tocasia's Welcome first appeared in the The Brothers' War set as part of the Magic: The Gathering card game. The card depicts a central figure in the game's lore, Tocasia, who served as a mentor to the protagonists Urza and Mishra. Its inclusion in 'The List'—a curated selection of cards from the game's history inserted into set boosters—highlights its role as an enchantment that rewards players for building wide board states, reflecting the resourcefulness and academic rigor attributed to Tocasia in the narrative.
The art was commissioned to capture the scholarly yet maternal presence of the character during her time at the Argivian University. Artists for the set were tasked with translating the industrial and historical themes of the Brothers' War era into a cohesive aesthetic. The card was well-received by players for its synergy with token-focused strategies and its contribution to the deep, decades-long lore surrounding the conflict between the two titular brothers.
