Where it came from
Toothy, Imaginary Friend was introduced as part of The List, a curated selection of reprints featured in the Magic: The Gathering set Battlebond. The card functions as a token-related creature, reflecting the set's unique emphasis on Two-Headed Giant gameplay and team-oriented mechanics. By pulling from the game's deep history of character designs, The List serves to reintroduce niche or flavor-heavy cards to a modern player base.
The illustration for Toothy was crafted to capture the whimsy and slightly unsettling nature of a childhood companion brought to life. Designed with a distinct visual language that prioritizes expressive, oversized features, the artwork leans into the 'imaginary friend' theme by blending surrealist elements with the established aesthetic of the game. It was received as a standout card for players who enjoy synergistic, counter-focused playstyles and narrative-driven deck building.
