Toski, Bearer of Secrets

Toski, Bearer of Secrets was originally released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Kaldheim, inspired by Norse mythology and the world tree Yggdrasil. The character serves as the squirrel avatar of the World Tree and acts as a legendary creature designed to draw cards whenever creatures deal combat damage, embodying the theme of a relentless, inescapable gatherer of information. This particular iteration stems from a specialized Secret Lair drop, a series launched by Wizards of the Coast to highlight artistic exploration through limited-edition, alternate-art versions of existing cards.

The aesthetic for this Secret Lair version departs from the standard set art, utilizing a distinct illustrative style intended to emphasize the whimsical yet mythic nature of the character. By commissioning specialized artists for these drops, the design team aimed to provide collectors with a more stylized, premium interpretation of the card that stands out from typical expansion printings. It was well-received within the community for its unique visual flair, which distinguishes it from the more traditional card layouts typically found in deck-building sets.
