Where it came from
Toski, Bearer of Secrets was originally introduced in the 2021 set Kaldheim, inspired by Norse mythology and the figure of the squirrel-messenger Ratatoskr. This specific iteration, featuring collector number 191, was released as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander expansion. The card maintains its signature mechanics of being indestructible and drawing cards whenever creatures deal combat damage, adapted here to fit the thematic aesthetic of the Ravnica-based investigative storyline.
The creature was illustrated by Colin Boyer, who leaned into the squirrel's mischievous and ethereal nature within the context of the Multiverse. The design sought to balance the card's low mana cost with its powerful card-draw ability, making it a staple for green-aligned decks that focus on wide creature boards. It was received warmly by the Commander community for its resilient gameplay utility and its unique place in the broader lore of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game.
