Where it came from
Toski, Bearer of Secrets was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Kaldheim, which drew heavily from Norse mythology and the theme of the world tree. As a legendary squirrel creature, Toski represents the squirrel of the Yggdrasil-inspired World Tree in this fantasy setting. This specific version is a promotional variant featuring unique foil-etched or alternate-frame treatments designed to highlight the character's mischievous nature.
The card was designed to function as an indestructible, uncounterable card-drawing engine, a mechanic that quickly made it a staple in various Commander decks. The artistic direction for the Kaldheim promos aimed to lean into the stylized, metal-inspired aesthetic of the plane. Upon release, the card was widely received by players for its flavorful design and its effectiveness in multiplayer formats, solidifying its place as one of the most recognizable squirrel-themed cards in the game's history.
