Where it came from
Transmogrant's Crown was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War, a Magic: The Gathering expansion set that revisits the foundational conflict between Urza and Mishra. The card depicts a piece of Phyrexian machinery designed to corrupt and repurpose living matter, reflecting the set's narrative focus on the early, horrific stages of the Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria. Its inclusion serves as a mechanical representation of the set's graveyard-centric themes, rewarding players for sacrificing creatures to fuel the Phyrexian war machine.
The artwork was illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a stark, industrial aesthetic to emphasize the menacing nature of Phyrexian technology. The design prioritizes a visual language of metallic textures and biomechanical fusion, consistent with the broader art direction of the set. Players and collectors received the card as a notable utility piece for Limited formats, where its ability to grant power boosts while facilitating death triggers makes it a staple for aggressive strategies.
