Where it came from
The Transmogrant's Crown was released as part of the promotional suite for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. This set revisited the deep lore of the game's earliest history, specifically the devastating conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra. The card serves as a thematic artifact depicting the dark mechanical experimentation characteristic of the Phyrexians, the primary antagonists of the set.
The design of the card emphasizes the grim, industrial aesthetic of Phyrexian machinery, utilizing distinct art direction to convey the horror of the transmogrification process. Released as a foil-etched promo card with the collector number 125s, it was designed to appeal to collectors interested in the artifact-heavy theme of the set. Upon its release, it was well-received by players focusing on synergy-driven decks that leverage graveyard and sacrifice mechanics.
