Provenance

Where it came from

Undiscovered Paradise originated as part of the Visions expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in early 1997. The card was later featured in the 1997 World Championship Decks, a product line released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top-performing decks used by players at the annual world tournament. These commemorative versions were printed with gold-bordered backs and signatures of the players on the front, distinguishing them from standard tournament-legal game cards.

The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a prominent fantasy artist known for his detailed oil paintings. His design for the land card depicted a lush, ethereal landscape, aligning with the visual identity of the Mirage block's tropical and mystical themes. Within the game, the card offered a unique mana-fixing utility that returned to the player's hand at the end of each turn, a design choice intended to balance its versatility as a land that could produce any color of mana.
