Provenance

Where it came from

The Unicorns card serves as the front card for the Unicorn-themed pack in the Magic: The Gathering 'Jumpstart' set, released in 2020. This set was designed to be an accessible, plug-and-play experience where players could combine two randomized twenty-card packs to create a functional deck, effectively bypassing the traditional deck-building process. The front card acts as a deck identifier, showcasing the thematic identity of the specific pack content while also serving as a playable card within the game.

The art and design for this series were created to highlight distinct tribal identities within the game's fantasy landscape. The Unicorns pack, curated with a mix of new and reprinted cards, reflects a whimsical yet tactical approach to the game's 'White' color identity. By leaning into the classic high-fantasy aesthetic of the creature type, the design aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia while maintaining the streamlined mechanics required for the set's fast-paced, limited-format style of play.
