Provenance

Where it came from

The Dinosaurs front card was produced as part of the Jumpstart set for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This innovative product was designed to facilitate quick, randomized gameplay, where players combine two distinct themes to form a cohesive deck. The set is notable for its emphasis on accessibility and its ability to introduce new players to the mechanics of Magic through self-contained, shuffled experiences.

The card features thematic artwork commissioned to represent the prehistoric, heavy-hitting nature of the dinosaur creature type within the game's lore. The design team focused on creating a visual shorthand that would immediately signal the playstyle of the deck to the user, balancing established high-fantasy aesthetics with the specific archetypal expectations of dinosaur-themed decks. It was well-received by the community for successfully blending the nostalgic appeal of tribal-themed cards with the streamlined functionality required for the Jumpstart format.
