Urza's Factory

Urza's Factory was first introduced in the 1996 expansion set 'Alliances,' serving as a critical piece of the Urzatron cycle of lands. Designed by the Magic: The Gathering R&D team, the card was conceptualized to provide long-term utility for control decks, allowing players to generate artifact creature tokens as the game progressed. This design reflected the era's focus on land-based resource management, cementing its status as a staple for tactical players who prioritized board state preservation.

The inclusion of this specific printing in 'The List'—a rotating selection of cards from Magic's history featured in Set Boosters—highlights its enduring relevance in the game's ecosystem. The art for the original card was illustrated by Quinton Hoover, whose distinct, painterly style captured the industrial, arcane aesthetic of the Urza block. Over the years, the card has been received as a foundational example of a 'utility land,' admired for its simple yet effective design that rewards patience in late-game scenarios.
