Where it came from
Urza's Saga was originally released in the 1998 expansion set of the same name, designed by Mark Rosewater and the Wizards of the Coast team to introduce the enchantment land card type. This specific iteration, collector number 48, was featured in the 2022 Secret Lair Countdown Kit, a limited-release product that celebrated Magic: The Gathering's history by offering a curated selection of powerful, high-demand cards behind a daily reveal format.
The art for this version was rendered by illustrator Bud Cook, who reimagined the iconic landscape of the Serra Sanctum and the mechanical remnants of Urza’s legacy. The design utilizes the borderless treatment popularized by the Secret Lair series, aiming to provide a premium, aesthetically distinct version of a staple card that has seen significant play in Eternal formats like Modern, Legacy, and Vintage due to its versatility in generating mana and tutoring for artifacts.
