Where it came from
Urza's Saga was originally released in 1998 as the first set of the Urza block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific card, designated as collector number 29 in the Store Championship promotional series, serves as a premium iteration of the popular enchantment card. It was distributed through local game store events intended to bolster community engagement and incentivize tournament play during the organized play seasons.
The card’s design features art by Franz Vohwinkel, who became a staple illustrator for the game during this era. The aesthetic emphasizes the mechanical, high-fantasy industrialism that defined the Urza storyline, blending intricate technical details with the ethereal magic inherent to the setting. Upon its initial release, the Urza block was noted for its immense power level, and the enchantment card itself remains a highly sought-after utility piece for competitive players due to its ability to search for artifacts and generate mana.
