Vampire

The Vampire token was released in 2014 as part of the Khans of Tarkir expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced to represent temporary creatures created by specific cards within the set, such as Sorin, Solemn Visitor, which features an ability to generate a 2/3 black Vampire creature token with lifelink. This token was designed to integrate visually and thematically with the darker, gothic horror aesthetic associated with the character Sorin Markov, who originated from the plane of Innistrad but made a notable appearance within the multi-planar conflict of the Tarkir block.

The artwork for this token was commissioned from Cynthia Sheppard, an illustrator known for her atmospheric and character-driven contributions to the game. Sheppard was tasked with depicting a Vampire that felt consistent with the established visual language of the franchise while remaining distinct enough to be clearly identifiable on the board during play. Her rendering focuses on the predatory elegance and muted, shadowed color palette typical of the creature type, a design choice that was well-received by players for its clarity and thematic depth during intense gameplay scenarios.
