Provenance

Where it came from

The Bird token from the Khans of Tarkir set was released by Wizards of the Coast in September 2014 as part of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens serve as auxiliary game pieces generated by various card abilities during gameplay, and this specific design was created to represent the avian creatures summoned by spells within the Tarkir block's Jeskai clan mechanics.

The artwork for this token was commissioned from illustrator Lucas Graciano, who was tasked with depicting a distinct, ethereal avian form consistent with the visual language of the Tarkir plane. The design emphasizes a sleek, elemental aesthetic that aligns with the set's focus on martial arts-inspired magic, and it was distributed in booster packs alongside the main card set to ensure players had physical representations for their game board.
