Where it came from
Vannifar, Evolved Enigma was introduced in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Murders at Karlov Manor. As a character, Vannifar is a Simic Combine bio-engineer whose narrative arc shifts from the guilds of Ravnica into the mystery-themed setting of the Murders expansion. The card represents a pivotal moment in the plane's history, showcasing the character’s mastery of transformation and genetic manipulation within the game's evolving lore.
The card was designed as a showcase variant, featuring art by the illustrator Jesper Ejsing. The aesthetic follows the specific 'magnifying glass' thematic frame established for the Murders at Karlov Manor set, intended to emphasize the investigative and noir-inspired tone of the expansion. Players and collectors generally appreciate this version for its thematic cohesion with the set's unique visual identity, which sets it apart from standard card frame iterations.
