Whenever you cast a spell that targets only a single artifact or creature you control, create a token that's a copy of that artifact or creature, except it's not legendary.

Where it came from
Vesuvan Duplimancy was introduced as part of the Dominaria United set in 2022, representing a thematic return to the iconic plane of Dominaria. The card mechanic, which creates copies of non-token permanents whenever they are targeted by a spell, leans into the shapeshifting lore of the Vesuvan people, a race of magically gifted mimics native to the setting. It was designed to offer players a unique strategic tool for value engines, focusing on the synergy between targeted interaction and board state multiplication.
The artwork for the promo version features an aesthetic consistent with the high-fantasy visual identity of the Modern Magic: The Gathering era. Illustrators for the Dominaria United expansion aimed to capture the historic scale of the plane, using a palette that emphasizes the magical, fluid nature of the Vesuvan mimicry. Upon its release, the card was widely noted by the player base for its potent interaction with spells that target multiple creatures, cementing its status as a sought-after piece for players building commander decks focused on replication and spell-based scaling.
